The elevation attribute is specified in the W3C's CSS 2.0 specifications as a style property. It is used as an attribute in MML.

The elevation attribute (vertical angle) is often used together with the azimuth attribute (horizontal angle).

Values

The angle at which a sound source is located with reference to the listener is declared with the following keywords together with a value.

angle:
'0deg' = on the same level as the listener
'90deg' = directly above
'-90deg' = directly below
below: = '-90deg'
level: = '0deg'
above: ='90deg'
higher: the sound is 10 degrees higher than its parent
lower: the sound is 10 degrees lower than its parent

In this example the vertical angle of the sound source is 10 degrees, while the horizontal angle is right at the back, thus 180 degrees.
