One of the basic building blocks used for creating sounds in the Universal Synthesizer Model. Its position in relation with the other layers is:
A device is different from an instrument. A device such as a synthesizer may be able to imitate an instrument such as a violin.
When a song is marked from a notation point of view (ie a score) it may not be necessary to specify the device. However, if the song is to be played by some or other synthetic device, it is advisable to state the device details. User may not have access to such a device and should be able to specify their own devices, and also their instruments of choice.
